Nikon D600 What You Need to Know for Best Performance

The D600’s original MSRP was Body: $2099/ £1955.99 With 24-85mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR: $2699/£2443.99

Used D600 cameras fall into a price range of $350 to $500. The difference will be due to condition and accessories included.

The Nikon D600 uses a Lithium-Ion EN-EL15 rechargeable battery & charger.

The battery can not be charged via USB. This means a battery charger will be necessary.

Third party battery chargers will be less expensive than OEM Nikon chargers. There will usually be an option to get one bundled with a third party battery purchase.

SanDisk SD Card
SanDisk Extrme Pro UHS-I 512GB Card

The Nikon D600 is compatible with Dual SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

That means compatible D600 SD cards can have a maximum storage capacity of up to 2TB.

There are two memory card slots. The camera can be used with only 1 SD card. When using 2 SD cards, they do not have to be exactly the same.

Dual SD cards can do the following:

  • Mirror recording on both cards so there is a backup.
  • Shoot RAW on one and JPEG on the other.
  • Have the second card be used for overflow once the first is full.

If you need a card, my recommendation is to get a 128GB SD card with UHS-I. This will provide the best price to performance, capacity, and compatibility with other devices.

The D600 is compatible with Nikon F mount lenses. This opens up a wide range of lens possibilities. A full range of lenses exists including circular fisheye, ultra wide angle, perspective control, macro, telephoto, mirror, bellows, and all kinds of zooms.

There is a list of the best Nikon D600 lenses that covers lenses for all different types of photography.

  • Active D-Lighting
  • 5.5 fps continuous shooting
  • Auto Active D-Lighting System
  • Custom Setting Options
  • Red eye correction

The D600 has an Full frame (35.9 x 24 mm) sized sensor. This is paired with the Expeed 3 image processor.

The Nikon D600 can record video at 1920 x 1080 (30, 25, 24 fps), 1280 x 720 (60, 50, 30, 25 fps) in MPEG-4, H.264.

The fixed screen on the D600 can make shooting video difficult. A fully articulated LCD screen would make recording video easier.

There is no port for a external microphone.

The D600 does not have built in wireless. The Wu-1b mobile adapter is needed to for a wifi connection. Unfortunately, there is not alternative to the Wu-1b mobile adapter. The best alternative would be to upgrade to a different camera.

The D600 does not have built-in GPS.

The GP-1 is needed to enable GPS capability. This will store location data in the exif data of photos.
