Best Canon Rebel T6s Memory Cards

The Canon Rebel T6s can use SDXC, SDHC, and SD memory cards.

Compatible SD cards for the Rebel T6s include any SD card with a memory size of 2TB or less. A note of importance is that older cards will have slower write speeds, which might reduce the camera's capabilities.

Don't care about technical specs? Here's my recommendation for the best memory card:

SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO SDXC Card

  • Best value for the money.
  • Transfer speeds up to 170MB/s.
  • Excellent reliability.
  • UHS-I.
  • Temperature-proof, waterproof, shock-proof, and X-ray-proof.

Best SD Cards

SanDisk, Lexar, and PNY are brands that produce high-quality Memory cards. The best SD cards I have owned have been the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD cards.

That does not mean you need to purchase a card made by SanDisk for your Canon Rebel T6s. Make sure the name is impressive. That will make sure you get fast read/write rates, shock resistance, and other features.

I have not had errors with Lexar Professional or PNY Elite Performance cards.

The issues I have encountered with SD cards have been when inexpensive brands were used. Not having a brand name increases the chance of data corruption or card failure.

If you are looking to spend less, don't buy a cheap card. You will be better off purchasing a high-quality SD card with a smaller storage capacity.

The Canon Rebel T6s can use SD and SDHC memory cards.

Secure Digital (SD) memory cards come in 4 different specifications. Each new card spec improves the max storage capacity and transfer speeds of the card.

  • Secure Digital (SD) - 128MB to 2GB.
  • Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) - 4GB to 32GB.

  • 16GB - 4,640 images

Speed, Class, & UHS Ratings

Card Speed

The speed rating of an SD memory card is based on sequential read and write speeds. Card speed is important for video and continuous shooting.

A slow memory card can cause a drop in the number of continuous frames the Canon Rebel T6s can take. This is because the camera's buffer will not be able to write to the card quickly enough.

With video, a slow SD card can cause a sudden end to the recording. The video file could also end up being corrupted. If you are going to record video, it is critical the SD card you use meets the requirements of the camera.

Card read speed is important for file transfers to a computer or laptop. If you are filling up cards with images or video, a card with a fast read speed will save you time.

Speed Class Rating

Example of where to find SD Card Speed Class
The 10 inside of the C means the card is Class 10.

The Class rating of a card is related to the sustained write speed. Memory cards that have a write speed of at least 10MB/s will be rated Class 10.

  • Class 2 - 2MB/s
  • Class 4 - 4MB/s
  • Class 6 - 6MB/s
  • Class 8 - 8MB/s
  • Class 10 - 10MB/s or faster

Every brand name memory card that you can purchase today will have a Class 10 rating. To check the class rating of an SD card, try to find a number inside of a C on the label.

Ultra High Speed (UHS)

Example of an SD memory card with a UHS-I rating.
The UHS rating of a card can be determined by a Roman numeral I, II, or III on the label of the card.

The Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus can be found in SDHC and SDXC cards. UHS allows cards to achieve increased transfer rates.

Three separate specifications exist. They are UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.

Look at the label to figure out the rating of a card. If the card has UHS a roman numeral I, II, or III will be on the label.

  • UHS-I - Maximum transfer rate of 104 MB/s
  • UHS-II - Maximum transfer rate of 312 MB/s
  • UHS-III - Maximum transfer rate of 624 MB/s

Now that you know why the SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro is the best Canon Rebel T6s memory card, you'll be able to pick out the best SD card for any future camera.
