Best SD Cards
SD memory cards have greatly reduced in cost since the launch of the Panasonic GX80.
Due to prices being low, it will not be cost-effective to pay for anything besides a high-quality SD card.
The best SD memory cards I have owned have been the SanDisk Extreme Pro, Lexar Professional, and PNY Elite Performance models. I have under no circumstances suffered from a card failure or unusable data with those SD cards.
Every complication I have encountered has been with cheap unbranded cards. Seeking to save a little bit of money is not worth it if your GX80 will not work correctly.
A smart way to save money is to buy a smaller capacity memory card from a high-quality supplier. By doing this, you will know your images are safe on the card.

Panasonic GX80 SD Card Compatibility
Only use SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards with the Panasonic GX80. For best performance, ensure your camera is using the most recent firmware.
The newest SDUC (Secure Digital Ultra Capacity) cards, aren’t going to be usable in the GX80.
You need to know of the four kinds of Secure Digital (SD) memory cards that can be bought. SD cards can be told apart from the size of the card.
- SD (Secure Digital) - 128MB to 2GB.
- SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) - 4GB to 32GB.
- SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) - 64GB to 2TB.

Speed, Class, & UHS Ratings
Card Speed
The speed rating of an SD card is dependant on the sequential write and read transfer speeds. The continuous write speed of a memory card is essential for continuous shooting and video.
Slows memory cards can cause a reduction in the number of continuous images the Panasonic GX80 can capture. This is because the camera’s buffer is not able to write data to the memory card quickly enough.
When shooting video, a slow card can cause an abrupt end to shooting. The video file might also be corrupted. If you intend to shoot video, it is critical the card you use meets the minimum requirements of the GX80.
Card read speed is important for file transfers to a computer or laptop. If you are filling up cards with images or video, a SD card with a fast transfer speed will save you time.
Speed Class Rating
The Class rating of an SD memory card is determined by the continuous write speed. Memory cards that have a minimum write speed of 10MB/s are labeled as Class 10.
- Class 2 - 2MB/s
- Class 4 - 4MB/s
- Class 6 - 6MB/s
- Class 8 - 8MB/s
- Class 10 - 10MB/s or faster
Every brand of SD memory card that you can get will be Class 10. To discover the class rating of a card, look for a number inside of a C on the label.
Ultra High Speed (UHS)
The Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus is found in SDUC, SDXC, and SDHC memory cards. UHS allows for increased file transfer rates.
Three different specs exist. They are called UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.
Look at the front of the card to find out the rating of a SD memory card. The presence of a Roman numeral I, II, or III on the front of the memory card, that will be the rating of the SD card.
