Battery & USB Charging
The Nikon D5000 battery page covers the different EN-EL9a versions, MH-23 charger, and third party USB-C batteries.
Third party batteries are available that are much less expensive than an OEM Nikon battery. Even better is that newer third party batteries have built-in USB charging. That’s good because the D5000 cannot charge the battery via the USB port.
The USB port is for slow data transfer only. A memory card reader will be the fastest and they are usable by phones.
