The Nikon D3500 original price in 2018 was $499.95 for the camera and Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens.
A two kit lens bundle was $849.95. The second lens was a telephoto zoom, the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED.
That’s $150 cheaper than both of the Nikon D3400 lens bundles. The kit lenses are the same for both cameras.
Those prices included a battery and charger. An SD memory card for the Nikon D3500 was not included. A compatible one can be found for around $15.
How much is a Nikon D3500 worth?
Based on sold listings on eBay, a Nikon D3500 with the kit lens can be found for less than $400.
If I was looking to buy one, I would strongly consider a Nikon D3300 or D3400 instead. All three cameras have the same sensor and image processor. There are only minimal differences.
What is nice is how good of a value Nikon F-mount lenses currently are. There are great lenses for the Nikon D3500.

Adjusting the Nikon D3500 for inflation, $499.95 in August of 2018 is equivalent to $643.26 in September of 2025.
That’s close to what a Nikon Z5 with the Nikon Z 24-50mm f4-6.3 kit lens costs.
