Best Nikon Coolpix Memory Cards

The Nikon Coolpix P600 may use SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. Having fast write speeds is a crucial element for continuous shooting and video.

The performance of your camera can be greatly decreased by using an inadequate SD memory card.

If you're in a rush, here's the best card you can buy for the Nikon Coolpix P600:

Best SD Cards

In the time since the launch of Nikon Coolpix P600, the cost of memory cards has greatly reduced.

With the cost becoming affordable, it doesn't make financial sense to pay for anything other than a pro-level SD card.

SanDisk Extreme Pro, Lexar Professional, and PNY Elite Performance cards have all worked well for me. I have never endured unusable data or a card become inoperable with those SD cards.

Every hassle I have experienced has been because of no-name unbranded SD memory cards. Attempting to save around a buck is not worth the cost if your Coolpix P600 does not operate properly.

A sensible way to spend less money is to pick a lower storage capacity SD memory card from a quality company. Because of this, you'll not have to be worried about the photos stored on the SD memory card.

Speed, Class, & UHS Ratings

Card Speed

The speed rating of an SD card is determined by the sequential write and read transfer speeds of the card. The continuous transfer speed of a memory card is critical for continuous shooting in addition to video.

Slows memory cards can cause a decrease in the number of continuous images the Nikon Coolpix P600 can take. This is because the camera's buffer is not able to write data to the card quickly enough.

With video, a slow card can cause an abrupt end to recording. The video file could also be corrupted. If you intend to shoot video, it is important the memory card you use meets the required write speed for video.

Card read speed is nice to have for file transfers to a computer or laptop. If you are filling up cards with images or video, a SD card with a fast read speed will decrease the time it takes the transfer to finish.

Speed Class Rating

Example of where to find SD Card Speed Class
The 10 inside of the C means the card is Class 10.

The continuous write speed of an SD memory card is the factor that determines the Class rating. Cards that have a write speed of at least 10MB/s are labeled as Class 10.

  • Class 2 - 2MB/s
  • Class 4 - 4MB/s
  • Class 6 - 6MB/s
  • Class 8 - 8MB/s
  • Class 10 - 10MB/s or faster

Every brand of SD memory card that you can get will have a Class 10 rating. You can verify the class rating of a SD memory card by looking for a number inside of the C on the label.

Ultra High Speed (UHS)

Example of an SD memory card with a UHS-I rating.
The UHS rating of a card can be determined by a Roman numeral I, II, or III on the label of the card.

The Ultra High Speed bus (UHS) is a feature often found in SDUC, SDXC, and SDHC memory cards. The UHS bus memory cards to achieve increased read and write speeds.

There are three separate specs. The versions are UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.

You can determine the UHS rating of a SD memory card by reading the front of the SD card. If the SD card has UHS, a Roman numeral I, II, or III can be found on the memory card label.

  • UHS-I - Maximum transfer rate of 104 MB/s
  • UHS-II - Maximum transfer rate of 312 MB/s
  • UHS-III - Maximum transfer rate of 624 MB/s
