Best Nikon Coolpix Memory Cards

SDXC, SDHC, and SD memory cards were engineered to be compatible with the Nikon Coolpix AW110. Fast write speeds are an important element for burst shooting and video.

The wrong SD card can ruin the performance of your camera.

Just want the best? Here's my suggestion on the card to get for the Nikon Coolpix AW110:

Best SD Cards

Like all things tech, the price of SD memory cards has greatly fallen since the release of the Nikon Coolpix AW110.

With prices getting cheap, it would not make financial sense to spend money on anything but a professional-quality SD card.

The best SD memory cards I have owned have been the SanDisk Extreme Pro, Lexar Professional, and PNY Elite Performance models. I have not experienced data errors or a card failure with those memory cards.

Every last problem I have experienced has been because of no-name unbranded cards. Attempting to save around a dollar isn't worthwhile if your Coolpix AW110 is not going to work in the right way.

A sensible way to save money is to find a lower capacity memory card from a quality manufacturer. By making that choice, you will know your photographs are safe and sound on the card.

Speed, Class, & UHS Ratings

Card Speed

The speed rating of an SD memory card is dependant on the sequential read and write speeds of the card. The continuous transfer speed of a memory card is critical for clearing the buffer for continuous shooting as well as recording video.

A slow SD card can cause a reduction in the number of continuous images the Nikon Coolpix AW110 can take. This is because the buffer in the camera is not able to write data to the SD card quickly enough.

When recording video, a slow card can cause recording to end. The video file may also end up being corrupted. If you intend to shoot video, it is crucial the SD card you use meets the requirements of the Coolpix AW110.

Read speed is nice to have for transferring files to a computer. If you have cards that are full, a SD card with a fast read speed will cut down on the transfer time.

Speed Class Rating

Example of where to find SD Card Speed Class
The 10 inside of the C means the card is Class 10.

The Class rating of an SD card is related to the sustained write speed. SD cards that have a write speed of at least 10MB/s are rated as Class 10.

  • Class 2 - 2MB/s
  • Class 4 - 4MB/s
  • Class 6 - 6MB/s
  • Class 8 - 8MB/s
  • Class 10 - 10MB/s or faster

Every name-brand card that you can find today will be Class 10. You can check the class rating of a card by looking for a number inside of a C on the front.

Ultra High Speed (UHS)

Example of an SD memory card with a UHS-I rating.
The UHS rating of a card can be determined by a Roman numeral I, II, or III on the label of the card.

The Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus can often be found in SDUC, SDXC, and SDHC cards. The UHS bus cards to have faster transfer rates.

There are 3 different versions. They are called UHS-I, UHS-II, and UHS-III.

You can figure out the UHS rating of a memory card by reading the front of the SD memory card. If the card has UHS, a Roman numeral I, II, or III will be on the front of the card.

  • UHS-I - Maximum transfer rate of 104 MB/s
  • UHS-II - Maximum transfer rate of 312 MB/s
  • UHS-III - Maximum transfer rate of 624 MB/s
