The Canon SD960 IS requires SD memory cards. The maximum capacity SD card that is compatible with the SD960 IS is 32GB.

MMCplus and MultiMediaCard (MMC) can also be used. However, they are not manufactured anymore. If you have one, you can use it. If you don’t have one, do not buy one, they will be more expensive than an SD card.

SD memory cards labeled as SDUC or SDXC won’t function correctly in the SD960 IS. These cards will be At least 64GB or larger, so they can easily be avoided.

The SDHC format was announced in 2006. All 32GB cards that are currently being produced will have almost identical performance. You cannot go wrong buying the cheapest class 10 name brand card. At the time of writing this, the PNY Elite 32GB SD memory card has the best price.

Best SD Cards

SanDisk, PNY, Samsung, and Lexar both make good quality memory cards. Avoid getting cards from bargain-priced house brand names.

Bargain-priced cards are more liable to encounter data corruption, meaning that you might lose all of your photographs saved on the card. A tiny amount of decrease in cost is not worth the decrease of build quality.

In the case that you need to save a small amount of money, get a memory card with a reduced capacity. They probably will be a tad more affordable and you will not have to be anxious about the SD card having data failure.

The Canon SD960 IS’s card reader is only compatible with the original two SD card standards. SDUC or SDXC memory cards will not function correctly.

MultiMediaCard Compatibility

In 1997, the MultiMediaCard standard was released by SanDisk and Siemens AG. MMC cards appear to be a slimmer SD memory card.

Only the 1st 2 generations of MMC memory cards will be able to function in the Canon SD960 IS. That consists of the first memory cards known as as MMC and the 2nd gen MMCplus memory cards. Later versions are not going to function with the Canon SD960 IS
