The Canon SD880 IS can use SD memory cards. 32GB is the maximum capacity SD card that will work in the SD880 IS.

MultiMediaCards (MMC) and MMCplus cards can also be used. However, they are no longer made. If you have one, you can use it. If you do not have one, do not buy one, they will cost more than an SD card.

SD memory cards that satisfy the SDXC or SDUC standards are not going to work properly in the SD880 IS. These cards will be 64GB or larger, so they can easily be avoided.

The SDHC format was announced in 2006. All 32GB cards that are currently being produced will have almost identical performance. You cannot go wrong buying the cheapest class 10 name brand card. At the time of writing this, the PNY Elite 32GB SD memory card has the best price.

Make sure to select a card from a company with a rock-solid reputation, such as SanDisk or Lexar. Inexpensive no-name brand names should be avoided.

Low-priced cards are more liable to experience file corruption, meaning you can lose all of your images stored on the card. A small difference in price is not worth the decline of build quality.

In a situation where you really need to reduce expenses, purchase a card with a reduced capacity. They may be a tad less expensive and you will not have to fret about the SD card becoming corrupted.

Always bear in mind, SD card problems are rarely experienced. In my time, I have only suffered from a couple of cards become corrupted. Age could have played a part, as the SD cards were included with previously owned cameras.

Canon SD880 IS SD Card Compatibility

Currently, four separate specs of Secure Digital (SD) cards exist. The Canon SD880 IS is limited to using SD memory cards. Every new memory card specification improves the read/write speeds and maximum capacity when compared to the prior specification.

Secure Digital memory card readers are backward compatible. A card reader built into a digital camera that can use SDXC cards will also be able to use SDHC and SD memory cards.

The Canon SD880 IS’s card reader is only compatible with the first two SD card technical specs. SDUC or SDXC cards will not work.

MultiMediaCard Compatibility

The MultiMediaCard technical standard was established by Siemens AG and SanDisk in 1997. MMC cards are close in size to an SD card, but they are just a bit thinner.

MMC memory cards that will function correctly in the Canon SD880 IS include the first 2 generations. Suitable cards will be labeled as MMC or MMCplus. Later versions will not work in the Canon SD880 IS

It isn’t a wise choice to buy any MMC cards. There is no one that is currently making MMC cards compatible in the SD880 IS. For that reason, they are very expensive and troublesome to purchase pre-owned.

Conclusion

Buy an SD memory card for the Canon SD880 IS based on price. An expensive card isn’t going to improve performance. As long as it is a speed class 10 card, you will be fine. My recommendation is the PNY Elite 32GB SD memory card.
