Best Canon PowerShot SD400 SD Memory Cards
The Canon SD400 uses SD memory cards. The largest capacity SD card that will work in the SD400 is 2GB. MultiMediaCards (MMC) can also be used.
SD memory cards labeled as SDUC, SDXC, or SDHC will not work in the SD400. These cards will be At least 4GB or larger, so they are easy to avoid.

Best SD Cards
Good quality memory cards are produced by both Transcend and SanDisk. Avoid picking cards from bargain-priced third-party brand names.
Cheap cards are more inclined to have data corruption, meaning that you’ll lose all of your photos saved on the card. A small amount of reduction in cost is not worth the decline of quality.
Get a smaller capacity memory card should you want to cut down on costs. They may be a little more affordable and you will not have to be concerned about the SD card having data failure.
Do not forget, SD card problems are not common. Only a couple cards have become corrupted out of the dozens I have owned over time. The two memory cards were previously owned house cards that were included along with the purchase of pre-owned cameras.
Canon SD400 SD Card Compatibility

Secure Digital memory card readers are backward compatible. A card reader built into a digital camera that can use SDXC cards will also be able to use SDHC and SD memory cards.
The Canon SD400’s card reader will only work with the first SD card standard. SDUC, SDXC, or SDHC memory card cards will not be compatible.

Canon SD400 Memory Card Full Error
Trying to use a SD memory card that has a capacity of 4GB or larger in the SD400 will result in the digital camera to show an error.
Get a memory card with a storage capacity of 2GB or less to rectify the problem.
If you attempting to use a SD memory card that is 2GB or smaller, and it is not working, format the SD memory card in the camera.

Speed ratings for SD memory cards are established by the sequential read and write speeds. The speed of the SD card is important in the event that many pictures need to be written to the SD card.
SD Card Speed Class Rating
The Class speed rating of an SD memory card is related to the sustained write speed of the SD memory card. A Class speed rating of 2 means that the memory card can maintain a write speed of a minimum of 2MB per second.

Sustained write speeds of 2MB, 4MB, 6MB, or 8MB per second means the card has a speed class of 2, 4, 6, or 8. Cards that have write speeds of 10MB/s or faster are rated as Class 10.
