Best Canon PowerShot Digital Camera Memory Card

The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS can use SD memory cards. 32GB is the biggest capacity SD card that is compatible with the PowerShot SD1100 IS. MultiMediaCards (MMC) and MMCplus cards can also be used.

The camera was labeled the Canon DIGITAL IXUS 80 IS in Europe.

SD memory cards that meet the SDXC or SDUC requirements won't work in the PowerShot SD1100 IS. These cards will be 64GB or larger, so they can easily be avoided.

Want to skip the tech jargon? This is my recommendation on the card for use with your Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS:

SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDHC Memory Card

SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB SDHC

  • Best value for the money.
  • Read speeds of up to 95MB/s; write speeds of up to 90MB/s.
  • Shock-proof, temperature-proof, waterproof, and x-ray proof.
  • UHS speed Class 3 (U3) and UHS video speed Class 30 (V30).

64GB or larger cards are not compatible with the camera.

Recommended PowerShot SD1100 IS SD Cards

Down below are memory cards that will work with the PowerShot SD1100 IS. With all of the cards outlined below, you won't have to stress out over SD memory card data corruption or reduced overall performance.

Best SD Cards

First-class memory cards are made by both Lexar and SanDisk. Avoid ordering cards from low-priced generic brand names.

Low-cost cards are more inclined to encounter data corruption, meaning that you can lose all of your shots saved on the card. The reduction in quality is not worth the tiny cost savings.

Just buy a smaller sized capacity memory card if you want to cut down on costs. They tend to be a little less expensive and you will not have to be concerned about the SD card failing.

Always bear in mind, SD card issues are not common. Only 2 cards have become corrupted out of the many I have owned over time. Age may have played a part, as the SD cards were included with used digital cameras.

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS SD Card Compatibility

four different specs of Secure Digital (SD) cards are currently being manufactured. The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS uses SD memory cards. The benefit is that there is an increase in the transfer speeds and max storage capacity with the release of every updated standard.

Secure Digital memory card readers are backward compatible. A card reader built into a digital camera that can use SDXC cards will also be able to use SDHC and SD memory cards.

The Canon Rebel T7i also uses SD memory cards. For an idea of what the camera is capable of see the 8 best lenses for the Canon Rebel T7i.

The card reader in the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS will only work with the initial two SD card standards. SDXC or SDUC memory cards are not going to work.

  • Secure Digital (SD) - These memory cards have a maximum capacity of 2GB and are compatible with the PowerShot SD1100 IS.
  • Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) - The capacity of these memory cards range from 4GB to 32GB and are also compatible with the PowerShot SD1100 IS.
  • Secure Digital eXtended Capacity (SDXC) - The capacity of these memory cards range from 64GB to 2TiB.
  • Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) - The capacity of these memory cards range from 4TiB to 128TiB.

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Memory Card Full Error

Trying to use an SD card that has a capacity of 64GB or larger in the PowerShot SD1100 IS will cause the camera to show an error.

Get an SD memory card that has a storage capacity of 32GB or less to fix the error.

If you're attempting to use an SD memory card that has a capacity less than 32GB, and the card is not working, format the SD memory card in the camera.

Speed, Class, & Capacity

SD Card Image Capacity

The following is a quick estimate of the total number of large JPEGs you could expect to fit on an SD memory card.

  • 4GB - 1920 images
  • 8GB - 3840 images
  • 16GB - 7680 images
  • 32GB - 15360 images

Memory Card Speed

The speed rating for SD memory cards is determined by the sequential read and write speeds. The speed of the memory card is important in the event that many photos need to be written or read from the SD card.

SD Card Speed Class Rating

Example of where to find SD Card Speed Class
This is a Class 10 SD memory card as shown by the '10' inside of the 'C'

The Class speed rating of an SD memory card is based on the sustained write speed of the memory card. A Class speed rating of 2 means that the memory card can maintain a write speed of at minimum 2MB per second.

  • Class 2 - 2MB/s
  • Class 4 - 4MB/s
  • Class 6 - 6MB/s
  • Class 8 - 8MB/s
  • Class 10 - 10MB/s

The best rating an SD card can get is Class 10. There are memory cards that are much faster than 10MB/s. Those cards use other technologies, such as UHS (Ultra Highspeed Bus), which uses a separate rating criteria.

Sustained write speeds of 2MB, 4MB, 6MB, or 8MB per second means the card has a speed class of 2, 4, 6, or 8. Cards that have write speeds of 10MB/s or faster are rated as Class 10.

MultiMediaCard Compatibility

The MultiMediaCard technical standard was revealed in 1997 by Siemens AG and SanDisk. MMC cards are comparable in dimensions to an SD memory card, but they are a little thinner.

MMC cards that are going to function in the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS include the 1st two generations. Suitable memory cards will be branded as MMC or MMCplus. Later generations won't function in the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

It isn't advisable to buy any MMC memory cards. No one is actively making MMC cards that will function in the PowerShot SD1100 IS. Thus, they are difficult to get used and overpriced.

Conclusion

The best SD memory card for the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS is the SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB SD Memory Card. However, the Lexar Professional 32GB SD Memory Card offers the best value.
